Scitech releases smallest hyperspectral multi-linescan camera with USB 3.0 interface

Scitech introduces the new xiSpec
multi-linescan hyperspectral imaging (HSI) cameras from XIMEA.

Well-known in the market for
designing extremely small, robust and easy-to-use industrial and hyperspectral
imaging cameras, XIMEA has now developed the new xiSpec multi-linescan HSI camera
based on the design and technology of the globally field-proven xiQ series of
industrial USB 3.0 cameras.

Where conventional colour
cameras use a mosaic pattern of red, green and blue (RGB) colour filters on top
of the pixel matrix, hyperspectral cameras replace the RGB pattern by many
different wavelength filters. While the numerous colour filters increase the
complexity of de-mosaicing and reduce spatial resolution, HSI cameras deliver
spectra for individual narrow colour bands revealing a different set of
information that can also indicate chemical or composition differences of
objects of the same or similar colour imaged by RGB cameras.

Instead of using a mosaic
pattern of hyperspectral filters, XIMEA cameras feature a line-wise arrangement
of 150 HSI bands. Thanks to the high frame rate of the image sensor, the camera
enables detailed and crisp captures of moving objects at multiple wavelengths,
allowing these objects to be moved orthogonally to the horizontal colour
filters of a camera mounted on a conveyor belt, or attached to a UAV, which
flies over a large area. The visual and near-infrared (NIR) spectrum of this
camera is especially relevant in agriculture.

Key features of xiSpec multi-linescan
HSI cameras include detailed hyperspectral analysis using 150 HSI bands between
470 and 900nm covering the visual and NIR spectrum; crisp capture of objects
passing by the camera in drone or conveyor applications through high-speed
multi-linescan with up to 1020 lines/second; easy and fast system integration –
USB3 Vision compliant including Windows, Linux and MacOS drivers, SDK and USB
3.0 micro-B with screw-lock; highly compact (26.4 x 26.4 x 31 mm), lightweight
(32g) and power saving (1.6W) design making them ideal for narrow spaces, or mobile
and airborne applications; and also available without housing as single-PCB
board-level version for even tighter integration.

XIMEA’s xiSpec multi-linescan HSI cameras find application
in precision agriculture, remote sensing, mineralogy, environment monitoring, sorting
and defect detection, UAVs, medical imaging, microscopy and endoscopy, life
science instrumentation, optical sorting, and food inspection.
