AMS Instrumentation and Calibration announces a new compact chilled
mirror hygrometer from Michell Instruments that can measure dew points down to
-90¡C (0.1ppmV) with an accuracy of ±0.1¡C.
A proven ‘workhorse’ in many calibration laboratories and industrial
settings, the new S8000 RS precision chilled mirror hygrometer from Michell
Instruments does not need additional external cooling equipment to accurately
reach these dry dew points, unlike many other chilled mirror hygrometers in
Designed to fit into a standard 19-inch rack, the compact and convenient
S8000 RS is the most cost-effective hygrometer in its class. A sophisticated
new optical system detects very small changes in moisture condensed on the
mirror surface, guaranteeing high sensitivity and fast response when measuring
low dew points.
Though the reference is to ‘dew point temperature’, chilled mirror
hygrometers often measure the frost point because the temperatures are below
freezing. However, in some conditions, liquid water can exist as ‘super-cooled
water’ in temperatures as low as -40¡C. Since the difference in condensing
temperature between water and ice can be as much as 10% of the reading, it’s
essential to know the phase being measured.
Employing Frost Assurance Technology (FAsT), Michell’s S8000 RS chilled
mirror hygrometers ensure that ice, not liquid water, is present on the mirror
surface at low temperatures, providing the confidence that the measurements are
always a known quantity.
