Testo Australia has been sponsoring the ‘Outstanding Refrigeration
Apprentice’ award at several TAFE institutes for several years. TAFE or the Technical
and Further Education institutions have been a key provider of vocational
tertiary education across Australia, building the nation’s base of trained
professionals in a wide array of vocational areas.
TAFE universities offer a wide range of awards and recognitions to
students enrolled in institutes across the country. The ‘Outstanding
Refrigeration Apprentice’ award is one such initiative with apprentices
assessed not only on the basis of their scholastic achievements but also their
attitude and dedication to their area of specialisation. Winners of the
annual award receive instruments courtesy of Testo, introducing them to current
technology that drives the industry to efficient and modern technical

This year’s awards ceremony was held at RMIT’s Story Hall Auditorium in August.
RMIT is one of the largest TAFE colleges in Australia that trains students for
the air conditioning and refrigeration industry. Testo’s service specialist
Akmal Zulkifli presented the award to this year’s apprentice of the year,
Alexander Mcguigan. A second year student in refrigeration at RMIT’s School of
Vocational Engineering and Trade, Mcguigan has excelled as a student in every
