PEACOCKS MD&B has released version 3.2 of its RFGen software package for data collection application programming. It allows users to quickly and easily create barcode data collection applications for portable data collection devices.
Simple or elaborate data collection applications using fixed and portable data collection devices to talk directly to host/ERP systems and databases using radio frequency technology or standard TCP/IP. RFGen’s rapid application development approach makes this version the fastest yet to program using a Windows point and click interface along with the ability to retrieve application information directly from a database rather than tedious repetitive device programming.
RFGen 3.2 supports all major hardware brands using TCP/IP and terminal emulation protocols supported by brands such as Intermec, Symbol, LXE and Teklogix. The previous cumbersome green screens are easily converted to a more user-friendly graphical user interface. RFGen’s previous menus and grids have been upgraded to a newer Windows XP look and feel, ensuring quick familiarity with the operation of the programming software.
Graphics have been improved, with support for both Windows Pocket PC and CE-based data collection devices enabling colour graphics, images along with text on the remote devices for a range of device types. Users can change the true Type and fixed fonts that display in the RFGen programmed window.
The RFGen Wireless Client offers guaranteed delivery of packets when operating at the limit of wireless coverage area through a protocol that ensures packet delivery where standard TCP/IP communications would start to fail. With the RFGen Mobile Client, users can collect data locally on a CE device in batch mode and then upload the collected data to the host system through either a wireless or direct connection.
The system also offers screen mapping, program encryption, Visual Basic scripting, database pooling, ERP connectivity, fast system and client startup, and database downtime/backup scheduling.
