Long appoints agent
Drivetrain Australia’s manufacturing arm, Fluid Systems Group (FSG, has been appointed a distributor of Canada-based Long Manufacturing’s automotive thermal management systems. Long Manufacturing is a unit of Dana Corporation, an international supplier of fluid management products and systems. FSG Melbourne plant has production facilities for making and supplying fluid hose assemblies and fittings to the automotive, truck and off-highway markets.

ABB accredited in Qld
ABB Australia's component service repair facility in Brisbane, a division of Automation Technology Products, has been awarded an accreditation through NATA to repair hazardous area machines. The accreditation provides underground mining companies with a Qld repair service for their machines. The NATA accreditation is for the in-service inspection including overhaul and repair of standard and modified electrical equipment for use in hazardous atmospheres Code AS/NZS 3800 Ex d, Ex e, Ex n, Ex p, and DIP motors and terminal boxes.

Springing up in WA
Pneumatic actuation and isolation and vehicle air suspensions specialist Air Springs Supply has established a new fully owned branch in WA to expand its national supply and service network. WA Air Springs, headed by manager Allan Shewell, will service mining and processing markets for Airstroke actuators, Airmount isolators, Ride-Rite supplementary suspension systems and industrial air springs as pneumatic actuators and isolators and Marsh Mellow springs for vibrating screens and underground mining vehicle suspensions.

Kvaerner studies Lihir
Kvaerner E&C Australia has been awarded a $280,000 contract by Lihir Management Co, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto, to assist with the preparation of a pre-feasibility study for its asset use project at the Lihir gold mine in PNG. The project is a proposed expansion of the existing facilities and will involve increasing the plant throughput to approximately 7.2Mtpa.

Blacktip gas, by Gove
A heads of agreement has been signed by Alcan and the Blacktip gas project partners (Woodside Energy 54%, ENI Australia 46%) for the supply of natural gas to Alcan’s Gove alumina refinery. A definitive feasibility study for the expansion of the refinery from 2Mtpa to 3.5Mtpa is expected to be completed by mid 2004, with first gas due for delivery in time for the proposed refinery expansion in 2007.

GSD drilling TasGold
G Spaulding Drillers (GSD) of Devonport, Tasmania, has been awarded a $75,000 contract for 2000m of RC drilling for TasGold. The program will be conducted at the Lisle project in NE Tasmania, with between 5 and 7 targets selected. GSD will receiver one-third of the value of the contract in TasGold shares.

Major drills success
Major Drilling Group, Canada, reports its Australian drill rig operations, Major Pontil, enjoyed “strong” market conditions in the year ended 30 April 2003. Revenues from drilling in Australasia and Africa increased over 65% to C$65m from C$35.7m the year previous.

Nordberg crush Chile
The Codelco-owned Chuquicamata copper mine in northern Chile has ordered two Nordberg HP800 cone crushers from Metso Minerals for crushing oversize pebbles at its sulphur plant. Meanwhile, the Anglo-American-owned Mantos Blancos mine - also in Chile - has recently taken delivery of its first Nordberg LT 125 mobile crushing plant to crush low grade ROM copper ore.
