INTERNATIONAL Rectifier, represented by Soanar Plus, has introduced the IRU3039 pulse width modulated (PWM) control IC with built-in, loss-less current sensing and over-current protection that simplifies circuits and maximises efficiency, since external sense resistors are not needed.
This versatile device is designed for a wide range of compact, high performance synchronous buck regulator applications used in DDR memory circuits, computer graphics cards, hard disk drives, network computer and server power supplies and on-board dc-to-dc converters.
In DDR memory circuits, the new IRU3039 can be used to provide both the core voltage (VDDQ) and termination voltage (VTT).
Over-current protection is achieved by monitoring the synchronous MOSFET on-resistance, enhancing converter efficiency and reduces cost by eliminating the current sense resistor.
The on-board regulator cuts component count. The single output voltage can be programmed as low as 0.8V for low voltage applications.
The IRU3039 features programmable switching frequency up to 400kHz, which can shrink circuit size with smaller inductors and output capacitors.
Other features include a capacitor-programmable soft-start function, an uncommitted error amplifier available for DDR voltage tracking applications and a 0.8V precision reference voltage with 2% output voltage accuracy over the entire operating temperature range.
