Sybase iAnywhere  has announced that it has expanded platform support within its Information Anywhere Suite.

Its web standards-based mobile enterprise application enablement component, M-Business AnywhereTM, now supports Symbian, Windows Mobile 6 and Windows Vista desktop and tablet platforms, in addition to Windows Mobile 5, Win32 and Palm.

Sybase also announced that its Mobile Inspection Toolkit, which is based on M-Business Anywhere, offers key new features, such as camera and GPS integration.

“Sybase iAnywhere continues to be committed to supporting the widest range of mobile device platforms,” said Yadong Liu, Sr. product manager, Sybase iAnywhere.

“We are excited that our new release will help application developers ease the challenge of building solutions for mixed device environments.”

“Sybase iAnywhere’s support of open Web standards and robust data synchronisation technology shortened time to market for our new and existing mobile solutions,” said Jeremy Riches, development manager, Civica.

“We’re excited about how the new features will help us further extend our Web-based application to an ever wider variety of mobile devices and platforms.”

“Sybase iAnywhere provides a well suited development offering for our SaaS (Software as a Service) mobile field service solution because of its support for open Web standards,” said Jean de Broissia, CEO, Praxedo.

“Our Praxedo mobile solution also takes full advantage of the Portable Object Delivery System (PODS) API to integrate into our solution the use of device peripherals such as cameras, GPS devices, scanners and portal printers.”

New features include:

  • Additional platform support – In addition to Win32, Windows Mobile 5 and Palm-based devices, M-Business Anywhere now supports Symbian, Windows Mobile 6 and Windows Vista desktop and tablet platforms
  • Client enhancements – Provides improved performance on Windows Mobile devices
  • Dynamic menu customisation – Provides the ability to tailor device client UI for customers using familiar JavaScript
  • Mobile Inspection Toolkit enhancements – Now offers support for both PDA and laptop form factors. In addition, provides the ability to integrate photos with survey results, and offers GPS integration to track an inspector’s location or include GPS information in the survey results
