Sybase enhances its RAD tool with new features
Sybase, a provider of enterprise infrastructure and mobile software, has announced new Microsoft .NET Framework-based enhancements to Sybase PowerBuilder 11, the premier 4GL rapid application development (RAD) tool and DataWindow.NET 2.5, a powerful component for .NET Framework-based environments that simplifies and accelerates the creation of data-driven applications.
New features for PowerBuilder include Windows Vista support, .NET Framework incremental compile capabilities, and database driver enhancements.
DataWindow .NET 2.5 has been extended with the ability for developers to use Web services as a data source , TreeView presentation styles, and integration of the design-time environment into the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 development environment.
PowerBuilder has always been about simplifying Windows application development, and now, PowerBuilder and DataWindow .NET are also about simplifying .NET Framework-based development.
The integration of Sybase’s development tools into the .NET Framework and Visual Studio enables mutual customers to gain increased flexibility and greater ease of use.

- Support for Windows Vista
- Incremental Compile for the .NET Framework
- Database Driver Enhancements, including Informix 10 support
DataWindow .NET 2.5
DataWindow .NET 2.5 has been updated with a new data source and presentation style. Developers can now build a DataWindow from a Web service, simplifying the development process. The TreeView presentation style that is available for the desktop is now available for Web based applications as well.
By integrating the design-time environment as part of the product, developers can now be more efficient and never have to leave the Visual Studio integrated development environment (IDE).
