is collaborating with Intermec to develop and market a “best of breed” radio frequency identification infrastructure that enables organisations to transform business processes, improve productivity and data accuracy for decision-making.
Intermec develops, manufactures and integrates technologies that identify, track and manage supply chain assets. Core technologies include RFID, mobile computing and data collection systems, barcode printers and label media. Sybase provides middleware solutions that sit between the RFID network of devices and back-end enterprise systems.
Together, Sybase and Intermec will assemble a technical infrastructure for customers, systems integrators and application developers. The companies will also develop cooperative sales strategies to support an RFID sales pipeline, participate in a skills transfer process, and cooperate to support mutual partners, particularly with systems integrators.
The seamless integration between Sybase software and Intermec hardware will allow users to fully leverage the power of RFID to transform their business processes, improve workflow productivity and reduce error rates.
The Sybase RFID Anywhere middleware platform – part of the Sybase RFID Enterprise suite – enables organisations to abstract proprietary hardware interfaces; filter, aggregate and add value to the raw data received from the readers and other devices; and send it to the central enterprise system for further analysis using standard interfaces, languages and protocols. Sybase RFID Anywhere also provides management and security capabilities over the RFID network itself.
“Just gathering raw data isn’t enough any more,” said Curtis York, general manager, Intermec Australia/New Zealand. “The integration of the Sybase RFID Anywhere software system with Intermec’s rugged RFID equipment will provide companies with new ways to securely gather and actively manage critical business information.”
