SIEMENS Energy & Automation Inc, has announced the release of APS 3.0 for the APACS+ process automation system. This release is yet another element in Siemens' commitment to provide continuing support for the APACS+ system.
APS 3.0 is an upgrade enabling the APACS+ system to utilise the recently released Compaq Tru64 v5.1 UNIX operating system.
The upgrade to the Compaq Tru64 v5.1 operating system brings APS to the latest version of the Compaq UNIX operating system, ensuring ongoing support for the APACS+ system.
With this upgrade, the APACS+ system offers users several new benefits. It supports the use of Compaq TruCluster Server v5.x. Compaq TruCluster enables APS servers to share configuration and runtime files. It also reduces server fail-over times and system management workload.
With the APS applications upgraded for use with the Compaq operating system, there are also several features of particular interest to batch processing applications.
The APS Batch Manager now supports attaching audit, video and text files to a phase. All levels of the S88 recipe procedure are now supported by the APS Batch Manager. It also provides recipe synchronization and validation, as well as recipe procedure jump capability.
Another feature of the APS 3.0 release is that the Batch Information Server now provides Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 for storing batch history. In addition to this, Crystal Reports is now used to create batch report formats allowing an APACS+ system operator can schedule and view reports using a web browser.
In APS 3.0, all components have been validated to function with the Compaq Tru64 v5.1 operating system. For complete information on the APACS+ process automation system, visit www.sea.siemens.com/automat and click on Process Automation.
