US football team the Washington Redskins has turned to Perth-based Quest for an RFID-based loyalty card scheme and point-of-sale (POS) technology. The equipment will be installed at the Redskins “Smart Stadium of the Future” in Landover, MD, US.
The company won the contract against stiff US and international competition and was required to undergo “an intensive evaluation by the Redskins’ IT staff, the integration consultant BearingPoint and the stadium food service provider Centerplate” to ensure its ability to develop and deploy the project.
At the core of the system the lies the company’s POS hardware and the Task Venue back office software package, which will be integrated with the member loyalty system. This system is claimed to contain a number of innovative features such as the RFID smartcard and readers.
For Phase 1 of the project, the cards operate as read only, but the system is being developed as a full read/write operation for future use. A web Service interface between the back office software and the existing Redskins website will allow members to query their account and will also have facilities for local vendors to participate in the loyalty system by integrating their own POS systems. As well as the stadium, the 11 off-site Redskins merchandising stores will also be linked into the system.
The Redskin’s stadium, known as FedExField, is the largest NFL Stadium with seating capacity over 92,000. Quest says here will be more than 600 VersaTerm POS, V-touch and RF hand held ordering devices, covering all food and beverage operations in the stadium.
