AUSTOR Data Storage has released the Qualstar RLS-8244 LTO rack mount library. It delivers a 8.8 terabytes of native capacity using only 5U (22.2cm) of rack space.
This makes it suitable for small to medium sized companies with rapidly growing data storage needs.
The RLS series uses leadscrew-based robotics, brushless dc motors and closed-loop servo control systems to provide precise positioning and flawless media handling for years of dependable operation. All field replaceable units, options and tape drives are autodiscovering, and all electrical and mechanical adjustments have been completely eliminated by adaptive smart logic design.
Using built-in data compression, the RLS-8244 can easily store more than 17 terabytes, making it the highest density rack mount LTO library available. Offering superior performance and value, the series now includes seven models yielding capacities up to 22 terabytes (native). Depending on the tape drive technology chosen, individual models house up to four tape drives. Using typical data compression ratios, capacity can exceed 57 terabytes
The RLS series is the only tape library that supports AIT, LTO, SuperAIT and SuperDLT cartridge tape formats. Incorporating IBM LTO 2 tape drives to provide the high performance required to match its capacity, the library's data transfer rate is 252 gigabytes an hour. Using compression, this rate can exceed 500 gigabytes an hour.
