has announced a five-year OEM agreement with semiconductor manufacturer Atmel. The agreement will involve Protel supplying Atmel with OEM versions of its electronic design software, to be integrated into Atmel’s ProChip Designer programmable logic design system.
Protel executive director Nick Martin said the two companies have a unique opportunity to cooperate on the development of more advanced design products for board-level, programmable chip-level and embedded systems design.
“Integrating Protel’s technology into Amtel’s products creates a powerful design platform for programmable logic users, and positions Protel and Atmel for the next wave of advanced FPGA and embedded design methods,” he said.
“This partnership allows Atmel to provide its customers with a complete solution based on Protel’s advanced design entry tools, and gives access to Atmel’s large and diverse base of customers.”
Protel hopes to benefit from the revenues associated with OEM sales, as well as follow-on revenues generated from sales to Atmel customers of full product upgrades. Meanwhile, Atmel sees the deal as a strategic move to secure design entry, simulation and synthesis products.
“We are very excited about this new partnership with Protel”, said Atmel PLD product marketing director, Jim Fahey. “The broad range of Protel’s products, combined with their key acquisitions in FPGA synthesis and simulation technology, serve perfectly as the core for the Atmel second generation EDA for our PLDs.”
