Sometimes it’s just not enough to ‘do the right thing’.
For too long the packaging industry has been a soft target for criticism about its performance in packaging waste management.
While some of that criticism has been warranted, there are brand owners and retailers that have adopted effective and responsible packaging waste management practices.
The National Packaging Covenant has been the leading instrument for managing the environmental impacts of consumer packaging in Australia since 1999.
Hundreds of companies have signed the Covenant proving there is widespread support for self-regulation. Many companies have not only signed the Covenant – they have exceeded expectations. However, many of those great achievers have gone unnoticed.
It’s time for brand owners and retailers to come forward, be publicly acknowledged for outstanding packaging waste management, and be held up as a shining example to industry peers.
Packaging magazine is proud to launch the inaugural Evolution Awards program with the very aim of recognising and rewarding brand owner excellence in packaging waste management under the National Packaging Covenant.
I encourage all eligible brand owners and retailers to enter.
Afterall, you ought to be congratulated.
