ATTITUDES to supply chain are changing, according to two logistics specialists who recently gave presentations on logistics trends to members and guests of the Packaging Council of Australia.
Core Logistics Consulting CEO and principal consultant, Tom Cordukes, said there was a move to: faster, more reliable logistics networks involving manufacturing and distribution; customer-oriented supply chains; global purchasing for cost reduction and innovation; value-added partnerships with suppliers and service providers; and high-speed logistics through information and communication systems.
Toll Logistics national manager - business development, Hayden Donoghue, said industry in terms of the supply chain was fragmented and independent with an excess capacity and too metropolitan focused, while industry of the future would be consolidated, lean and interdependent.
Donoghue said customers of today were informed as to choices, actively looking for best cost, and seeking to reduce waste.
He said customers of tomorrow would be more open to an integrated solution to market and an increased reliance on technology.
