Henry Walker Eltin has completed the design and construction of an additional crushing plant at the Yandi iron ore mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
The new crushing facility, (to be known as the Interim Crushing Plant) was designed and constructed by Henry Walker Eltin to add capacity to produce 5.5mt of Yandi fines per annum.
The plant has been constructed adjacent to the Yandi II ore handling plant, which was designed and constructed by HWE in 1996.
The design and construction process has been undertaken by a team from Henry Walker Eltin and its subsidiary Simon Engineering. Henry Walker Eltin also constructed the initial ore handling plant at Yandi, and has since designed and constructed upgrades and expansions to the plant.
The company will operate the new plant under the existing contract with BHP Billiton for operation of the Yandi iron ore mine. The 24 month contract is scheduled to expire on 30 June 2004.
The additional revenue to accrue to Henry Walker Eltin from the construction and operation of the plant is estimated to be around of $55m over the period to 30 June 2004 after involving a capital expenditure of around $16m.
