Mercy Ships has received a generous gift from Australian software developer Atlassian . The Sydney-based company is providing Mercy Ships IT with Confluence, its popular commercial wiki.
The timely gift allows Mercy Ships IT to better support the charity's hospital ships as they bring hope and healing to the forgotten poor.
"In the past it's been very difficult to capture meaningful documentation," says Mercy Ships chief information officer Kreig Ecklund.
“It was always left to the end of the project, and often never happened. Even when we did produce documents, they were buried in the developer's personal directories.
“Confluence makes documentation so easy we're churning out documents concurrent with development. Since it’s web-based, visibility is no longer an issue, even for our all-volunteer team scattered around the world."
Atlassian's Confluence software is an enterprise wiki designed to facilitate online collaboration and knowledge sharing. Confluence is currently being utilised by more than 700 organisations in over 40 countries.
Mercy Ships is the leader in using hospital ships to deliver free world-class health care services to the poor. Founded in 1978 by Don and Deyon Stephens, the newest Mercy Ship is the Africa Mercy, due to be commissioned from London in spring 2006.
