FLUKE Australia has teamed up with educators to bring the latest test and measurement expertise into Australian technical classrooms.
The Fluke Education Partnership program combines educational materials and application information accessed through a web site available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The program has been developed as an offering to educators specifically in TAFE institutes across Australia.
According to Henk van Velze, distribution account manager with Fluke Australia, “The program provides a ‘ready-to-go’ curriculum for teachers, ensuring they stay up to date with safety technology via access to resources and new technologies that they don’t usually have. And best of all, it’s completely free.”
The program is delivered on-line, although a CD-Rom is available if preferred.
“The classroom materials are easy to use and understand. They include colourful graphics, and provide practical examples of when certain tools should be used. When these modules are coupled with theoretical curriculum, labs, demonstrations, and hands-on experiences, they provide a very powerful teaching tool,” said van Velz.
The company says it has gone to great lengths to ensure that relevant content in the Education Partnership program is specific to the Australian industry. This is reflected in the module about the safety of electrical test equipment, which has been modified to reflect AS61010*.
“It is vital that apprentices and trainees are aware of the standards relating to electrical requirements in Australia in order to prevent injuries or even fatalities,” van Velz said.
The program is updated approximately every two months. “The program can be particularly useful in country areas where up to date information is often harder to access. The fact that everything is online makes the program extremely valuable.”
Each module focuses on key topics and entire modules or individual components can be selected from the Educators Portal, or ordered on CD. Topics include: electrical measurement safety; digital multimeter basics; electrical measurements on adjustable speed drives; insulation resistance testing and troubleshooting; and servicing HVAC/R systems
