Silicon foundry start-up Dongbu Electronics Company has launched a new $1m-plus discount program for its chip prototyping service.
Dongbu will offer qualified customers "considerable discounts" for its so-called ShuttleChip 0.25- and 0.18-micron prototyping service. The ShuttleChip program is geared to help customers design, prototype and develop their chip products more rapidly, says Peter Hillen, executive vice president of worldwide business development for the company.
"We stand ready to offer discounts totaling more than $1 million to motivate qualified companies to use our ShuttleChip service," Hillen said. "Allowing several companies to share a single mask set, our ShuttleChip service can rapidly verify prototype designs so that both fables and integrated device manufacturer companies can achieve cost efficiencies and move swiftly to production-ready silicon," he said.
Meanwhile, executives from Dongbu claimed that the company's process technology roadmap is on track. Recently, Dougbu qualified its 0.25-micron process technology, which is based on a license from Japan's Toshiba Corp.
"We expect to be qualified on our 0.18-micron process by the end of November," said W.S. Min, senior executive vice president and chief operating officer of Dougbu. The company expects to roll out its 0.13-micron process in the third quarter of 2002, Min said.
