Alimak displayed a new modular concept Scando 650 hoist with improved performance, durability and lifting capacity and lower energy consumption.
The hoist is said to be flexible and has a large number of configurations. For example, it has different doors/gates, drive units (three motor DOL and two or three motor FC), speed and payload capacity to suit most applications.
Available in single or twin car configurations, the 650 offers payloads of 1600 to 3000kg/car and has a standard maximum lifting height of 400m, which can be increased.
Two or three FC frequency control or DOL motors drive the system through a high efficiency gearbox. It operates at up to 65m/min and provides more hoist power, while using 40% less power than previous Scando models. It has a car length of 3.9m, which can be extended up to 4.6m.
Automation Studio
Automation Studio showcased the latest version of its schematic design and simulation software solution for industrial pneumatics, hydraulics and controls applications.
Its many new features include a Canbus link that turns Automation Studio into a complete virtual machine. Other features include a new animation module, extended libraries and models.
Brevini
Brevini displayed new planetary winch drives: the compact PWD series for drive applications from 3 to 12 tons, and the SLW-SCW series for operations requiring line pulls over 12 tons.
The company says both types offer easy integration into winch drums and can work in arduous environments with double sealing and epoxy paint finishes.
Caterpillar
Caterpillar had the largest exhibit space on site where it displayed 53 machines and 13 engines.
Also on display was the company’s factory-installed AccuGrade GPS. Cat says this fully integrated grade control system improves productivity by helping operators grade an area with fewer passes. The system gives the operator the option to control the blade manually using these guidance tools or to let the system control the blade itself. It is available as an option on many Caterpillar track-type tractor models.
Caterpillar’s SystemOne undercarriage system for track-type tractors and track loaders was also featured. It has positive sealing, which means parts are sealed for life, eliminating the need for interim maintenance and reducing downtime and costs.
Dana
Dana Corporation’s Off-Highway Systems group displayed its Spicer drivetrain components and systems at ConExpo 2005.
In addition it displayed Spicer axles, transmissions, brakes, electronic controls, driveshafts and related components.
Also on the stand, Dana exhibited teleboom handlers, wheeled excavators, front-end loaders, compact wheel loaders, haulers and backhoe loaders.
DBT
DBT displayed a full-size horizontal feeder-breaker and new steel rolls at Conexpo.
The Impact Roll Crusher (feeder-breaker) is for non-abrasive aggregates, recycling and tunnelling. In Australia these machines would find application in coal mines and limestone quarries.
With installed power of 305kW, the crusher exhibited at the show was an entire primary crushing plant with a capacity of 600tph.
Its horizontal processing has greater efficiency, while the low-profile design allows feeding at grade with large feed sizes and reversible material flow for jam-free operation.
Also on display was DBT’s new steel roll featuring a grease retention method called Positive Automatic Lubrication, or Idler PAL, to ensure the bearing is lubricated at all times.
DBT uses a tapered roller bearing retention method that positions the bearing while ensuring consistent, reproducible end-play. New assembly processes and techniques result in a standardised product with consistent internal tolerances to maximise bearing life. Its installation method allows rapid retrofitting of the steel roll to competitors’ frames.
Also on show was Exalon roll and heavy-duty engineered pulleys. Made of DBT’s high molecular weight polyethylene, the roll is 30% lighter and lasts up to three times longer than steel in normal bulk handling environments.
The heavy-duty pulleys feature a keyless locking device to eliminate the unfavourable hub-to-disk weld, which is said to result in reliable drive of conveyors with belt tensions over 226,800kg.
Hoss Equipment
The SiteWatch solar powered wireless network video trailer was displayed and demonstrated at Conexpo.
SiteWatch systems feature powerful built-in surveillance and communications capabilities.
The systems are rugged enough for trouble free operation in harsh environments. Plug & play simplicity ensures easy training. The system is easy to integrate and expand.
Static mount systems are also available.
Metso Minerals
Metso Minerals launched a new track-mounted cone plant, Lokotrack LT200HP, for secondary and fine crushing at Conexpo.
The company says the latest model promises high throughput, quality end product shape and compact transport dimensions.
LT200HP is built around the Nordberg HP200 cone crusher, of which there are more than 650 in operation around the world. The HP200 can process up to 275tph because of its 210mm feed opening. It produces a highly cubical end product and is reliable.
A 425hp CAT C-12 diesel with hydraulic drive provides variable crusher speed. Crusher speed can be optimised for specific liners and feed stock, and thereby control gradation, maximise throughput and reduce wear material cost per tonne.
A standard feature of the LT200HP is the IC600 interactive, intelligent control system. It monitors and controls the crushing process to ensure continuous and stable material flow to the cone. The IC600 control system shows all essential information about the crushing process and operation of the unit.
During the launch, the 20th anniversary of the Lokotrack mobile track-mounted crushing concept was celebrated.
Pioneer Pump
Pioneer Pump introduced its PP44S10 4" version of the Silent Pack range of dewatering pumps.
The pump is fully enclosed in a durable stainless steel enclosure that reduces sound levels to below 62dBA at 23'. A fuel efficient Deutz F3M2011 engine delivers 35hp at 1800rpm for optimum pumping efficiency.
The pump has a PP44S10 Prime Series vacuum assisted pump to enable a smaller, quieter engine to be specified. Although a 4" pump, it has greater capacity that many larger, more expensive pump sets.
The PP44S10 has a maximum output of 1400 gallons per minute and maximum head of 105' while operating at 1800rpm. It can handle spherical solids up to 3" diameter.
Sandvik
Sandvik Rock Processing joined with Sandvik Mining and Construction at Conexpo to display the new Crawlmaster1208i crushing unit.
The 1208i (“i” for intelligence) mobile unit has a control system that provides lots of useful information. It helps with sequenced start-ups, close-downs and fault tracing. Its intelligence gives the operator an overview of the unit in operation with full control of the process.
The 1208i is available in three different versions; each has a Jawmaster crusher with a feed opening of 1.2 x 0.8m. Sandvik says the Jawmaster single-toggle jaw crusher is suitable for the toughest quarrying and mining jobs.
All versions of the 1208i have crawlers, diesel engines and a main product belt conveyor. They feature minimum exhaust, noise and dust emission.
Each version is designed to handle different types of natural fines.
The 1208i’s hydraulically adjusted Hydrocone is controlled by ASRi, a crusher control system that helps monitor operations and optimise the crusher.
Volvo
Volvo Construction Equipment launched its new 70-ton Volvo EC700B excavator at Conexpo.
Production models of the Volvo EC700B are being field-tested worldwide and full-scale production will begin later this year for delivery to all markets in early 2006.
Volvo says the excavator has a proven powertrain, “excellent” balance and stability as well as high digging forces.
The EC700B has the largest-capacity engine in its class of excavators: the Volvo D16C EAE3, with an output of 464 gross horsepower at 1800rpm. The engine features the new Tier 3-compliant Volvo Advanced Combustion Technology power system, which is matched with Volvo hydraulic systems to provide high digging and crowding forces.
It has a digging reach of 13.17m, a digging depth of 8.4m, a breakout force of 301kN and bucket sizes from 2.5m3 to 4.5m3.
The operating weight of the machine is 67,500kg – 70,300kg.
The standard boom and arm on the Volvo EC700B are 7.7m and 3.55m, respectively, with 900mm double grouser shoes. The machine weighs 69,200kg.
The operator station features clear visibility, a nine-way adjustable seat, ergonomic controls, sound and vibration protection and a high-capacity climate-control system.
There is easy access to the engine oil fuel and air filters and to various other components via wide steps, a catwalk and ladders.
The undercarriage is retractable for easier transport and quicker turnaround.
The company says the EC700B is well-matched to working with its articulated haulers.
