A range of new equipment and ideas for the mining and minerals processing industries was shown earlier this month at the Bulkex exhibition and conference at Sydney’s Darling Harbour organised by Hayley Media.
Halley and Mellowes
Halley and Mellowes showed its latest Morgensen sizer that has a bank of inclined meshes of progressively smaller aperture and set at progressively steeper angles to provide, so it is claimed, better operation than conventional screens.
Morgensen’s Divergator, a non-blinding and self-cleaning grizzly screen, was also on display.
Kockums Bulk Systems
Pneumatic conveying and other solutions for transferring powders and granules over distances of just a few metres to a kilometre or more were displayed on the Bulkex stand of Kockums Bulk Systems.
Kockums displayed the Olds Elevator that it is developing in conjunction with Olds Engineering in Queensland. The device is similar in principle to a screw conveyor, except the screw remains stationary while the shroud rotates.
Bulk Handling Australia
Bulk Handling Australia displayed a wide range of woven, laminated, UV treated polypropylene flexible intermediate bulk container (FIBCs) including the Gambo, Nomad and Stack Pack designs as well as 25kg and 30kg woven polypropylene bags and multi-wall paper sacks.
The bags come in a range of styles and sizes from 500kg to 2000kg.
R J Cox Engineering
R J Cox Engineering showed solid plastic belt conveyor idlers, said to be as tough as metal equivalents but six times lighter and with many extra advantages.
The idlers’ bodies and caps are wholly made of from Prolon NA, which is a combination of Polyamide 6G and natural cast nylon.
Kelba Australia
Kelba Australia, an Australian manufacturer of high performance load cells, released its new S-type load cell. The product assists with accurately measuring capacities of up to 20t.
Said to be the only one of its type in Australia, the new S-type load cell is designed for large tank applications.
Perma Australia
Perma Australia showed its new multi-point lubrication innovations, including the Perma Pro.
The Perma Pro is a hi-tech modular system with one to six ports of distribution at 25 bar pressure. It has either a 250 or 500cc grease cartridge and a six port electromechanical rotary port distribution system with a full digital and LED display. It can push NLGI 3 greases up to 5m.
Endress+Hauser
Advanced technology to provide measured information about current inventories in tanks, tankers and silos was shown by Endress+Hauser.
The company introduced the HART-based Fieldgate FXA 520 interface gateway that can make information available in HTML format in a control room as a web page with clear and accurate graphics. Each module can continuously monitoring up to 30 measuring points.
FA Miller & Son
FA Miller & Son exhibited latest developments in air-supported belt conveying.
The basic concept is similar to that of a hovercraft.
Air is blown up through an air plenum under the belt, so that the belt is actually riding on a cushion of air, thereby reducing friction.
Mideco Dust Control
Mideco Dust Control highlighted recent dust filtration installations at bulk handlers like Asphalt Australia in Adelaide where a a Mideco dust control system used to filter emissions from the drying process exceeded environmental requirements and cut costs.
Pressure Systems
On its Bulkex stand Pressure Systems exhibited an explosion protection device for indoor and outdoor use that nullifies flame or dust propagation by quenching it inside the unit.
The ECO-Q-Rohr unit from Rembe in Germany has special stainless steel mesh construction and, as a passive device, requires no maintenance.
Rapat Australasia
Rapat Australasia used Bulkex to introduce its local conveyor making role on behalf of the Rapat Corporation of America.
In Rapat’s Series C conveyors the shape of the frame forms the belt into a trough and the product rides smoothly on top of the belt to eliminate damage or spillage and allow for easier cleanout of product.
The open bed design reduces friction and prevents dust build-up while an optional flanged inlet, complete with skirtboard rubber, assures proper flow of material onto the belt.
Brevini
Brevini’s new S series range of planetary gear units was unveiled at Bulkex.
The S series takes advantage of new bearing designs, with better technical features than the previous PDL and Standar series. Available in a range of eight sizes, the new gearboxes provide coverage to up to 1.2M Nm.
Meridian Engineers
In-motion train or truck weighing solutions and train loading accuracy solutions were offered by Meridian Engineers, which counts companies like BHPBIO and Griffin Coal among its customers.
Some time ago, a BHP Billiton iron ore train loading facility at Newman in WA was giving large variations in wagon loads, requiring average loads to be kept low. Meridian improved train loading accuracy.
Nupac Industries
Promising to allow trouble-free screening of difficult or sticky materials is a new wet or dry material screener from Russell Finex introduced at Bulkex by Australian agents, Nupac Industries.
The vibrator housing uses a new high mass machined casting directly coupled to a standard electric motor. Out of balance weights cause the casting to operate like a giant flywheel, translating power into the screening area.
Select Engineering
Select Engineering showed a mobile telescopic radial stacker that eliminates segregation and facilitates programmable stockpiling of consistent in-spec material.
The ThorStack, the unit is claimed as easy to set up, simple to operate and creates maximum pile capacity windrows.
