Avoca Resources Ltd has announced that a 700m long gold-in-regolith anomaly has been defined in its recent reconnaissance aircore drilling program on its Wiluna South gold project on Lake Way. To date, results have been returned from 96 of the 145 holes completed and are consistent with the objectives of the initial drill program.
Drill holes were completed over nine broad spaced reconnaissance traverses targeting specific magnetic features and north-south oriented structures interpreted to belong to the same family of structures that impart control on gold mineralisation at Wiluna's 5moz gold camp located 15km to the north. Avoca has completed reconnaissance drilling over approximately 50sqkm of the Lake Way surface during the recently completed drill campaign. The drilling completed represents the first exploration for gold mineralisation yet undertaken within what is now the Avoca tenure.
All anomalous intersections were obtained from the interpreted southern continuation of the ore-hosting Wiluna mine sequence, which comprises a low metamorphic grade package of basalts, dolerites, ultramafics and sediments.
Significant results returned from the drilling to date include: WILA 103 82-98m, 16m at 0.89g/t gold including 6m at 2.06g/t gold, WILA 073 26-28m, 2m at 0.78g/t gold, WILA 101 26-30m, 2m at 0.41g/t gold, WILA 080 58-60m, 2m at 0.23g/t gold, WILA 089 46-50m, 4m at 0.67g/t gold.
The 6m at 2.06g/t result was obtained from a 6m wide (down-hole) quartz vein intersection. The mineralised quartz vein lies at the contact of an interpreted strongly sheared basalt sediment interface. Alteration assemblages seen in adjacent holes within the 700m long anomaly include quartz - pyrite - carbonate lithologies.
The 700m long gold-in-regolith anomaly has been defined by three 200m spaced east west oriented sections with drilling at 50m intervals along each section. Two 100m spaced sections, also with drilling on 50m spaced centres along the section, have been completed to the north and south of 200m spaced sections.
