Autron has signed an agreement with logistics company SembLog that will see the latter provide supply chain management (SCM) support to both Autron and the electronics manufacturing industry.
The agreement will result in a 12% reduction in Autron’s logistics costs as the company’s focus in the exclusive supply, distribution, maintenance and servicing of printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) is heavily logistics reliant, according to SembLog president Koh Soo Keong.
It is also part of a plan by Autron that includes setting up a web-based inventory system as well as link-ups to customers’ supply chains, Koh said.
“In our effort to provide innovative solutions for our customers, SembLog intends to jointly work with Autron to develop logistics solutions leveraging automated identification technology (AIT), packaging and other supply chain technology specifically for the electronics equipment production industry,” Koh added.
The link-up project was recently piloted with disk drive manufacturer Seagate Technology, enabling Seagate to procure parts from Autron subsidiary Niche Tech electronically via the Ariba Commerce Service Network, Autron said in a statement.
In addition, the web-based inventory system will allow the company to keep track of components, reducing both overall inventory holdings and costs, the company said.
