AEEMA has formed a sub-committee to assist members that need information or guidance into RoHS and WEEE.
Keith Anderson, AEEMA board member and president of Adilam is chairing this new committee. Anderson says committee members are “well versed in many aspects of RoHS & WEEE, having a broad range of experience within their respective companies and responsibilities”.
The committee members include Warren Geering (Henkel Australia), Robert Hill (Tait Electronics NZ), Evan Hunter (Setec), Roland Sommer (RAWS NZ), Tom Sulda (Codan) and John Watt (GPC NZ).
The RoHS & WEEE committee comes under the Supply Chain Forum that in turn is under the Electronics Division of AEEMA with Jennifer Liston as director.
“It is important to ensure these issues be fully understood by Australian and New Zealand design engineers and manufacturers, and Electronics News fills a leading role in communicating this to the ‘local’ industry” says Liston.
“Australian and New Zealand industries are now following closely what is happening in other areas overseas, particularly Europe, Japan, China and USA,” says Anderson. “We have been well behind in recognising the critical importance of this legislation. Anyone designing or manufacturing goods for the European market should already be aware of the legislation now in place in [the EU]. It is imperative that legislation be fully followed otherwise there could be costly consequences for non-compliance goods being shipped into that market.”
