Internet Solutions Australia (ISA) as a key partner of Computer Sciences Corporation has delivered the ACT police a wireless vehicle search application using both WAP and GPRS technologies.
The Rego.act system delivers real-time mobile access to vehicle and driver information held in police and motor registration databases throughout Australia, and will allow police and other relevant authorities to identify stolen, written off or ‘rebirthed’ vehicles on the spot within three seconds, according to ISA managing director Steven Thomas.
“We’re proud to have partnered with CSC to deliver a system which could serve as a model for police in every state of Australia and change forever the way our police forces deal with vehicle-related crime,” Thomas said.
“Working with CSC we’ve provided a highly sophisticated system, employing the latest wireless technology available in Australia, with a very simple user interface and very rapid response times – a very important consideration given the nature of police work.”
Thomas said the system, which works via WAP-enabled mobile phones and GPRS-enabled phones connected to Compaq iPAQ PDAs, was also designed with reliability and security as key considerations.
“All data is heavily encrypted using 128bit secure socket layer (SSL) technology for browser-based access and a similar level of encryption for WAP access via wireless transport layer security (WTLS),” Thomas said.
