The winches have been designed to ensure simple installation and operation onsite.

All components are clearly labelled along with all limit switches. Data Plates and information of winch operation is clearly displayed on the winch.

The winches designed included a number of additional safety features which included:

  1. Ratchet and Pawl -Engaged and Disengaged Limit with interlocking
  2. Pawl fitted with a shear pin
  3. Shredder Cover and pitch cover design winch and control panel from falling objects
  4. Calm Limit Switch -For setting Up and Lower Limits
  5. Rope Overlay Limit -to ensure if a double up of the rope occurs hoisting is ceased
  6. Lifting Eyes - Lifting eyes were incorporate to assist with transport and installation of winches
  7. All stainless steel components used to prevent corrosion
  8. Final Up Limit -To prevent overrun in the event of other limits to protect winch and structure.
  9. Interlock - All functions are interlocked to prevent incorrect operation
  10. Transport Frames -Were supplied to assist in transporting the winches as a whole unit.

Vector Lifting has designed the take up winches to perform the task required with safety in mind. The Vector Lifting winches incorporate a number of features have been developed through the design process.

 Safety of Machinery

All equipment designed and manufactured by Vector lifting is done so in accordance to applicable Australian Standards, including AS4024.2014 ‘Safety of Machinery’. Vector Lifting uses this standard as the basis for Design Risk Assessment for the re-development existing products and design new products. Throughout both design and manufacturing stages the risk assessment is established and periodically reviewed to ensure risk to the health and safety of people associated with the use of the machine is minimised, ensuring safe installation and operation. As well as the impacts on people, the effects of the machine itself and to the surrounding equipment and environment is also considered.

Vector Lifting has developed its Conveyor Take-Up Winches with particular consideration to simple and safe operation, as well as providing a robust and efficient product satisfying the requirements of the machinery’s specific duty and the environment in which it is operated. A brief summary is provided below, listing the major areas of the winch design that is considered in past AS4024 Risk Assessments.

Each new product is re-assessed to ensure that the conditions and requirements of the new site and operating location is considered, as well as applying client specific prerequisites.

Design of Controls, Guarding and Interlocks are critical areas in the interaction between the operators and the winches in order to provide safe and efficient equipment. This is a key area for the safe use of the winch in direct relation to personnel.

Examples of major features that have been include in the winch design through risk assessments and design workshops include:

 Rope Overlay Detection

 Winch Drum Guarding with mesh screen inspection points

 Electrical overloads, Phase rotation indication, Phase failure relays

 Final Up Limit

 Emergency Stop button

 Hold to run controls

 Placement of rotating and moving components in relation to personnel control and access points

 Clear warning and instruction signage is positioned on the winch.
