TRIO Test & Measurement supplies the Ideal VFF5 fibre optic visual fault finder designed to locate breaks, poor mechanical splices and damaged connectors in fibre optic cables using a laser light source.
Ideal VFF5 fibre optic visual fault finders are used in the following applications:
- Verify continuity, test and find breaks in fibre links
- Locate pinched fibre strands in termination cabinets
- Identify fibre optic cables that are terminated and subject to mechanical damage
The VFF5 fibre optic visual fault finders are handheld, battery-powered testing tools that project a highly visible red light into a fibre optic cable to reveal the break.
The VFF5 is equipped with a high-power, extra long-life, 650nm laser diode, which operates in Continuous or Modulated mode. A push button allows the user to select the appropriate mode.
Any break in the fibre optic cables can be spotted by the operator as a conspicuously glowing or blinking red light area (in 3mm or smaller cables). A red LED on the outer case echoes the operation mode selected.
Suitable for use with single-mode and multi-mode cables, the VFF5 is effective over a distance of approximately 3km in multi-mode fibre optic cables and 4km into single mode fibre optic cables.
Ideal VFF5 fibre optic visual fault finders can be used as standalone first-line basic troubleshooting tools or in conjunction with an OTDR to pinpoint faults.
Designed robustly for field applications, the VFF5 comes in a pocket-sized, rugged metal housing and is fitted with a 2.5mm universal connector that accepts ST, SC and FC optical connectors.
The VFF5 can also be used by technicians terminating mechanical splices or internal splice style connectors where leaking light indicates a poor fibre cleave or misalignment.
