Available in Australia from Tadano Oceania Pty Ltd , the Tadano Mantis work platform is a personal lifting device that allows operators to safely work at height. Boasting a load capacity of 340kg and a deck measuring 1828mm x 914mm, the new work platform includes a 428kg test weight that can be utilised for certification.

The new Tadano Mantis work platform is custom designed and manufactured by Tadano Mantis in the United States. The Tadano Mantis range of crawler cranes comprises of nine models ranging from 27 tonnes through to 120 tonnes.

The Tadano Mantis work platform attaches to the end of the Tadano Mantis crane’s first section of fly jib with a series of pins and a purpose designed and certified adaptor. Once fitted, the work platform is ready for work.

Tadano Mantis Sales Manager for Tadano Oceania Bill Dunn observes that the availability of the Tadano Mantis work platform delivers greater versatility for operators with the platform providing significant benefits on the worksite.

According to Bill Dunn, worksites can easily create an aerial work platform in an hour by attaching the Tadano Mantis work platform to the boom extension of a Tadano Mantis crawler crane. The work platform attaches with pins rather than bolts, making the process quick and tool-free; additionally, there is no need to bring on a dedicated boom lift to the job and incur the hire, transportation and other associated costs of extra equipment. Having a work platform also eliminates the need to clutter the worksite with more equipment.

He explains that the need for an aerial work platform is relatively short term, making the Tadano Mantis work platform the ideal work-at-height solution that can be set up quickly. The ability of the Tadano Mantis crawler crane to handle rough terrain allows workers to access locations that would otherwise be impossible to access even with a 4WD boom lift.

Key features of the Tadano Mantis work platform include heavy-duty all steel construction with self-levelling capability; swing-in entry door; non-skid floor; interior hand rails; tool storage racks; D rings for attaching safety lanyards; and all-round 150mm toehold.

The Tadano Mantis work platform is operated from the crane cab by its operator utilising normal crane controls under monitoring by Tadano LMI system in response to instructions from workers on the work platform. Tadano Mantis work platform-equipped cranes include a crane-mounted DC powered emergency backup hydraulic pump installed with the purpose to retract and lower the boom in a work platform application for fail-safe operation.
