Siemens has introduced new transponders to its RFID product range, Simatic RF600, featuring greater memory capacities and a compact mobile read/write device for production and logistics applications. The new RFID transponders, RF622T and RF622L, will be presented at the upcoming Hannover Messe 2015 exhibition, Hall 9, Booth D35.

Featuring a capacity of 4 KB, the new UHF RFID data carriers enable large volumes of data to be stored on tagged objects along with rapid access. The transponders are ideally suited for distributed configurations, for example, in the fields of production control, asset management and intra-logistics.

Siemens’ new mobile handheld reader, Simatic RF650M, which is also being launched with the data carriers, enables reliable identification of a large number of transponders at a range of up to three metres. The device is specially designed for logistics and service applications.

The FRAM memory technology (ferroelectric random access memory) of the Simatic RF622T and RF622L transponders enables high-speed writing as well as an unlimited number of write cycles. Simatic RF622L smart labels are cost-efficient, ideally suited to the permanent identification of products, and can be individually printed from a roll, for example with plain text or additional optical codes. The robust and hardened RF622T transponder has been designed for fixing to pallets or containers, and can be attached to metal surfaces with the optional spacer.

The RF622T transponder measures 120 x 30 x 6.5 mm, while the RF622L smart label measures 90 x 18 x 0.5 mm. Both transponders offer long reading distances with a range of up to three metres.

Key features of the Simatic RF650M handheld readers include colour touch display with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, a rugged keypad and large trigger button enabling user-friendly operation; foldable RFID antenna; compact device dimensions of 147 x 60 x 39 mm; low weight of 235g including rechargeable battery, allowing fatigue-free use over long periods; and up to nine hours of battery life ensuring sufficient power for at least one shift.

Users can also create their own applications for the device based on the Microsoft Windows Embedded operating system. For servicing work, the supplied RFID software can be used for reading and writing from and to transponders. This also means that transponders are easy to read or reprogram for test purposes.

The Simatic RF600 range is particularly suited to identification applications in production and logistics where cost-effective data carriers with a long range are required.
