Harmonic Mitigation using Passive and Active Harmonic Filters by Westek Electronics
Product/Service Name
Westek introduces the new MTE MATRIX series D Harmonic Filters.
Passive and Active Harmonic Filters
Passive Harmonics Filters
Westek Electronics provides active and passive harmonic filters for three-phase and single-phase circuits. Harmonic filters are available for commercial and industrial electrical reticulation, as well as harmonic filters for variable speed drives and filters for other applications including the use of PWM inverters, etc.
Function/Applications
MTE MATRIX harmonic filters provide suppression of harmonics for variable frequency drives, servo drives, UPS systems, electronic welders, fan and pump drives, elevator drives and induction furnaces. The MATRIX M5 series is suitable for applications requiring the equivalent of 18-pulse inverter performance, achieving typically a THID of 5% at full load; and the MATRIX M8 series with a THID of 8% at full load is designed for the harmonic performance of 12-pulse drives. Both filter series are suited to operation with 6-pulse drives. The M5 and M8 filters are available as 380-415±10% volt, three-phase configurations with load currents selectable from 6 amps to 786 amps and can be paralleled to provide for larger loads.
MTE single-phase Matrix harmonic filters reduce harmonics to an acceptable value of typically 12% THID at full load for welders, brushless motors, etc. The new MTE design is based on a patented reactor design, which takes up less floor space and is highly suitable for single-phase an four-pulse conversion stages.
Schaffner ECOsine™ FN 3410 harmonic filters reduce THID to <5%, and comply with the requirements of IEEE 519, AS/NZS61000.3.6. Rectifier peak and RMS input current are reduced and a pure sine wave is drawn from the grid. Because of their compact package, they can be installed right inside the electrical cabinet next to the drive. A simple plug-and-play concept allows for quick installation, wiring, and commissioning, without the need for complex system analysis or the involvement of highly trained specialists.
Schaffner ECOsine™ FN 3410 harmonic filters are designed for 380-500V, 50Hz grids and are available for power ratings from 4 to 160kW.
Active Harmonics FiltersThe AIM AHF-series active harmonic filters use IGBT technology to generate an anti-phase signal to the harmonic current components produced by the load. The AHF filters are connected in parallel with the circuit they ’protect’ and draw leading phase angle current in order to provide DC link power for the converter. The control logic for the IGBT’s modulate their output to achieve this precise matching of the non-linear current components and harmonics ranging from the 2nd to the 51st order. AHF-series active filters may be connected in parallel and in three-wire execution are available in current ranges from 25 to 300 amps and voltages (4-wire models range from 25 to 100 amps) and voltages to 690 volts.
The AIM FA series single-phase Active Harmonic Filters are designed to isolate harmonic currents and thereby protect equipment on power distribution systems. They can provide compensation of displacement power factor (dpf –phase shift) and are ideally suited to power circuits of widely dispersed IT networks in financial institutions and ‘smart devices’ in buildings. The AIM single phase Active Filters are available as 230 Volt systems with current ratings of 10 and 15 Amps.
