A custom designed heat tent was produced by GV Mulder to help athletes train for events in hot humid climates. The Victorian Institute of Sport needed to provide a training room which could replicate the conditions found in Asia and the tropics.
GV Mulder were selected to custom design a special heat tent where heating and humidity could regulated and this room could be installed in their sports lab.
The custom tent was constructed from high grade reinforced PVC. PVC has excellent heat and humidity retention qualities and is a durable material. The tent design needed to snugly fit within an existing sports lab and be easy to pack down and re-locate. The tent’s overall appearance also had to reflect the institute’s reputation for sporting innovation.
A lightweight sectional aluminium frame was designed which was easy to assemble but could support a sizeable tent span of 5m. A box design was used to provide maximum internal space.
Large clear PVC panels were inserted down the side of the tent for visibility and also on the top for ceiling light to enter in. Zipped doors and external drawstring enclosures for heat equipment allowed for easy access and secure heat retention.
The whole construction was designed for continuous training use throughout the year and occasional use at sporting events.
The tent was designed from navy blue PVC, complementing the institutes own logo colours. The end result was a practical transportable training space that looked ultra modern.
