JT Day Pty Ltd has expanded its stock of industrial cables to ensure ready availability of products for offshore and onshore hazardous sites in Australia.

Readily available from JT Day’s Perth and Brisbane offices, the cable stock has been strategically positioned to maximise support for client needs across offshore and onshore applications.

Given the number of offshore facilities operating in the Carnarvon, Browse and Bonaparte basins, the Perth office provides support for these oil and gas installations, some of which are still under construction and due to come on stream within the next 24 months.

JT Day’s stock of cables meets the special requirements of cable construction and compounds typically used for these facilities. For instance, material selection for cable construction has taken into account the need for cables to be halogen-free, eliminating the potential for halogens such as chlorine to be released, should the cables be compromised by extreme heat.

Offshore asset owners typically specify material for cable sheathing as prescribed in IEC 60092 part 359, which covers electrical installations in ships and has been adopted by most offshore asset operators with manned operations. Flame retardant, low smoke and halogen-free compounds such as SHF2 are utilised for sheathing. The JT Day Perth facility has an expanded range of shipboard style cables compliant with AS/NZS5000.1&3 and AS/NZS3000-2007.

Additionally, JT Day stocks short cable lengths to support module and skid builders supplying equipment onto these projects as well as for service providers working on existing assets. The short lengths ensure the facilities are not subjected to the manufacturer’s minimum quantity orders. JT Day also stocks a full range of Ex and industrial cable glands and accessories to support all cable types.

JT Day’s Brisbane facility has an expanded stock of onshore style industrial cables to cater to the large number of onshore LNG projects on Curtis Island as well as onshore gas gathering facilities off the East coast (excluding the Bass and Otway Basins). The cables stocked are typically power, control and instrumentation, all supplied standard with steel wire armour for mechanical protection.
