Kennards Lift & Shift provides lifting solution to their customers for hire. A modular, 20 metre long spreader beam, hired from Kennards Lift & Shift, enabled the removal of toll booths from Sydney’s M4 motorway to be carried out with a minimum of disruption to traffic.

Everwilling Cranes was able to lift the two canopies, each 45 m long, 15 m wide and weighing 30 tonne, while keeping them intact. Built by Statewide Roads and opened in 1992, the M4 was a toll road. When the concession ended in February this year, the NSW Government assumed ownership of the road and removed the toll. During its time as a tollway, traffic numbers more than doubled to 100,000 vehicles each weekday.

Everwilling Cranes was engaged by GPP Excavations & Demolition Contractors, who had been contracted by the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority. Jamie Henderson, operations manager of Everwilling Cranes, said that by removing each canopy in one piece, the motorway had to be closed for only two six-hour periods at night instead of three to four days had the structures been broken up.

The Kennards Lift & Shift unit has the modular spreader beam available for hire in Australia. It is modular and can be can be used in various lengths up to a maximum of 20 metres. It can lift up to 145 tonne at 13.5 m and 76 tonne at 20 m. They hire a wide range of rigging and materials handling equipment from outlets in Sydney, Wollongong, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and a new outlet in Brisbane.
