There is no guesswork involved when Kennards Lift and Shift staffs give advice.

As well as being highly trained in the use of equipment, all Kennards Lift and Shift staffs are qualified riggers or, if they are new to the company, are in the process of getting their formal qualifications.

To become a qualified rigger, a person must first do a Dogman's Course, followed by a Riggers Course.

Riggers are trained to handle a variety of tasks including positioning structures such as beams and pre-cast walls, setting up and dismantling cranes and hoists, preparing loads for lifting and directing cranes.

They need to be able to calculate not only how heavy a load is, but also how that load will behave when it is lifted and moved and what type of lifting equipment needs to be used.

Kennards Lift and Shift staffs use their specialist knowledge every day, advising customers how to go about their jobs.

Some recent jobs where this knowledge proved helpful included:

  • Designing a gantry system to pull a motor cycle and a Cadillac down from the ceiling at the recently closed Hard Rock Café in Sydney
  • After viewing the plans and specifications, advising a customer what type of slings to use to lift and position some storm water pipes at Albert Park Lake in Melbourne
  • Having to work out and fabricate an 8m beam for a gantry for the installation of a gas heater at the Tyco Water plant in Somerton
  • A customer used a counterweighted floor crane and minifor to lift parts of an elevator motor up the elevator shaft; only after Kennards Lift and Shift staff advised the installation complied with work safety requirements
  • Though having the most up-to-date and effective equipment is important, an equally important aspect of a specialist equipment company is the knowledge which comes with industry approved qualifications.
