Kennards Hire Lift & Shift recently supplied a new 1000kg 12v glass lifter to Tech Glass Installations Victoria for installing large glass panels at the newly constructed Predator Precinct in Melbourne Zoo.

Lion Gorge, which forms part of the new Predator Precinct, will bring visitors face-to-face with some of the world’s most ferocious and territorial creatures including lions, African wild dogs and the critically endangered Philippine crocodile.

Shane Mullen, Site Manager and owner of Tech Glass Installations explained that the entire project involved extensive planning including taking precise measurements to ensure the glass panels would fit perfectly, organising site access and safety, and co-ordination with the glass supplier and zoo staff. Shane also had to ensure the right equipment was readily available for the installation.

According to Shane, the glass panels for the enclosure measured 2.7 metres high and 3.8 metres wide, varied in thickness from 31mm to 42mm, and weighed up to 750 kilograms.

Kennards Hire Lift & Shift recommended a machine that could lift glass weighing over 700kg. The staff at the Richmond branch arranged a demonstration of the glass lifter’s capabilities and operational controls.

Shane added that the glass lifter was the perfect machine for the project and was delivered at the site as soon as they needed it for the installation.
