Food safety, quality and traceability issues are a hot topic within the meat industry. With calls for increased regulation of traceability, businesses within the meat industry must ensure that they comply with both existing and future labelling requirements.
Randall Distributors is a family owned business that has been servicing Brisbane for almost 20 years. They supply hotels, restaurants, hospitals, carverys, franchises, takeaways and coffee shops with quality smallgoods, fresh meats, poultry, dairy and antipasto products.
A purpose built premises was constructed in Capalaba, QLD in 2003, with a full HACCP accredited slicing room, deli and temperature monitored coldroom and freezers. This was also a time when food labelling laws began to tighten and like many suppliers within the meat industry, Randall Distributors needed to adapt.
insignia has since been supplying Randall Distributors with their labelling solutions including printers, software, labels, thermal ribbons and technical service. Randall’s required a system that was easy to use yet flexible and insignia was able to provide them with a Datamax I-Class industrial thermal printer, which was linked up to their scales using MCL software.
insignia was also able to provide custom-branded labels for Randall Distributors. Their Datamax printer overprints variable information on demand, such as product information and weight. Bartender labelling design software (a user-friendly, Windows-based application) was used to easily format and design the labels required. The Datamax printer offers the ability to store the different label formats required directly on the printer, which can then be changed at the push of a button. The Datamax printer has been kept in the coolroom the entire time and continues to work where condensation has seen the end of other equipment.
Recently, insignia also implemented a new project at Randall Distributors, integrating existing systems to incorporate a barcoding solution for a new retail range. Reprogramming the existing system to incorporate a new barcoding function meant that the team at Randall’s can continue to operate with the ease, reliability and flexibility they have become accustomed to with their Datamax system.
Labelling standards are continuing to change to ensure food safety is maintained and traceability is increased. insignia can provide the solution to not only traceability requirements but branding too, by being able to produce custom-printed labels.
