Flexshield custom designed, manufactured and installed three acoustic welding bays at Baltimore Air Coil’s workshop.

A large manufacturing company producing evaporative heat transfer and ice thermal storage products, Baltimore Air Coil recently required some new welding bays in their workshop. Flexshield customised their acoustic welding bays to meet Baltimore Air Coil’s welding challenges.

Baltimore Air Coil Plant Manager Bruce Clark commented that the acoustic welding bays provided a number of unique benefits for the company. The installation was executed smoothly by the Flexshield team, adhering to all onsite safety contractor requirements. Even after several months, the company has had no issues with the performance of the screens.

Flexshield’s curtain screens have provided a number of unique benefits to Baltimore Air Coil’s workshop. For instance, weld bay access is unrestricted from all sides and areas; curtain damage is minimised as parts cannot lean against the wall, improving housekeeping; and clear access at the bottom of the curtain and the curtain strips have improved airflow through the weld bays, enhancing employee comfort especially on hot days.

The multi-coloured strips indicating ingress points have enhanced safety for employees entering and leaving the bays, while the improved visibility into the bays has increased productivity and employee safety as supervisors can see into the bays at all times. The hinged gate areas allow clear forklift access when required.

Bruce Clark added that he would readily recommend Flexshield to other manufacturers.

Manufacturing and fabrication environments are exposed to various risks including welding flash and noise induced hearing loss. Flexshield’s acoustic welding bays combine their Weldflex curtains and sonic system panels to reduce these risks and create a safe welding environment.
