Bestech Australia introduces the new Mercury RT video extensometer for deformation measurement of samples during material testing.

The new Mercury RT video extensometer allows multiple virtual probes (movement sensors) to be applied on markers and advanced image features to be tracked, including the natural pattern of the sample surfaces. This technology uses Digital Image Correlation and can even use the natural pattern on an object without the need to speckle paint the surface.

Mercury RT video extensometers are typically used to determine various material properties such as tensile tests, uni/biaxial properties, contractions, Young's modulus, poisons ratio and FEA analysis among others. It also allows for measurement of large strain rates, high-speed testing, vibration measurement, crack propagation, dynamic testing and quality control.

Key features of Mercury RT video extensometers include common resolution in 500 nm - 5 µm range for standard system; ability to fulfil class 0.5 or B-1 of classification according to ISO 9513 and ASTM E83; and system resolution reaching 100 nm - 500 nm level and fulfilling class 0.2 in certain camera use case. The strain resolution can reach 10 microstrains.
