According to Xeikon , Punch Graphix’s Australian division, as a full-service provider in the field of large-format offset print, the company Eller hold AG has in the meantime assumed leadership on the national market. Technical innovations have also strengthened the company's position in the European arena. In timely preparation for the forthcoming soccer World Cup, Ellerhold has expanded its machinery base yet again and has invested in a sixth large-format UV-Setter from basysPrint, the Punch Graphix brand for prepress solutions.

Ellerhold has already been using a digital process to expose its UV plates for four years. The first UV-Setter 1116 was successfully installed at the company's Radebeul facility in June 2001, after proprietor Frank Ellerhold, an entrepreneur with profound technical knowledge, had immediately recognised the technical and economic potential of the UV-Setter at drupa 2000.

Ellerhold is a one-stop partner for services addressing all aspects of professional poster printing, from competent advice during the planning phase, through to delivery of the folded, sorted and ready-to-hang posters. The company currently operates three ultramodern production facilities in Germany - in Zirndorf, Radebeul and Wismar - and maintains sales offices in many other countries across Europe.

The Zirndorf facility also switched to CtP in March 2003, with the commissioning of a UV-Setter 1520. The two other systems were installed in Radebeul in January 2004, parallel to the start-up of the world's first KBA Rapida 205 press. The platesetters handle UV-sensitive plates up to a maximum format of 1,560 x 2,100 mm.

As part of its own preparations for the 2006 World Cup, Ellerhold has now expanded its capacity and reserves once more and has installed a brand-new basysPrint UV-Setter 1542 for the very large format (VLF). "The benefits of the basysPrint UV-Setter are quite obvious," says Zirndorf managing director Bernd Schmidt. "On the one hand, we have been working very successfully with the basysPrint UV-Setters sold by Punch Graphix for four years now. At the same time, the use of UV plates lends the system an unbeatable cost-effectiveness. And the high process stability of the negative plates compared to other CtP plates, with an extremely low tone reproduction variation below the tolerance thresholds of modern measuring devices, is further testimony to its capabilities. In our opinion, the reliability and ease of operation of the basysPrint UV-Setter are unchallenged."

Success seems to prove Ellerhold right. Not only did the company receive a "Business Oscar" in 2004, it has also been awarded the innovation prize of the German print industry. And at the latest in connection with the billboard advertising campaigns to accompany the World Cup, there will be no overlooking the fact that this company, too, occupies a worthy place among the champions.
