Wormald selected to design fire protection solution for Western Australian iron project

Supplier News

MCC Mining has appointed Wormald to develop and provide a sophisticated fire protection solution for the Sino Iron Project in Western Australia, the largest magnetite and processing operation under construction in the country.

A high level of protection will be provided by Wormald's solution, which will include a range of sprinkler, deluge and detection systems, as well as fire hydrants and hose reels.

The water deluge system installed at the Sino site is particularly well suited to use in hazardous environments such as mining sites, as is the additional Simplex 4120 fire system network Wormald has provided.

The Simplex system consists of approximately 40VESDA detection systems, with thermal detection for some of the smaller areas. This network also interfaces with 20 third party detection systems, spanning both the iron ore processing plant and port area facility at the Sino site.

Wormald intends to service and maintain the fire protection systems it installs at the site for the life of the mine, in accordance with Australian Standard AS1851-2005 Maintenance of fire protection systems and equipment.
