Wormald , a specialist provider of fire protection solutions is working with gas and diesel power plant supplier, MAN Diesel & Turbo on a substantial project to install a range of fire protection systems at the new Owen Springs Power Station in Alice Springs.
The Owen Springs Power Station construction project according to the Northern Territory Minister for Essential Services, Mr Knight aims to increase the capacity of Alice Springs’s power supply by 30 per cent.
Wormald’s contract began in late December 2009 and the company is now in the final stages of installing its fire protection systems.
Working with a MAN Diesel & Turbo consultant, Wormald has designed and commissioned a number of systems to suit the various requirements of the facility.
Key installations include:
- Water deluge systems over the engine sets
- Fire hydrants, fire hose reels and fire extinguishers throughout the facility
- Fire sprinkler system in the fuel pump house
- Inergen fire suppression systems in the control and switch rooms
- Fire detection and Early Warning Intercom Systems (EWIS) at numerous locations across the site
The fire protection systems ensure a fire can be rapidly brought under control before it becomes a major incident that could potentially expose workers and the community to extreme danger as well as cause significant loss of critical assets.
Wormald’s fire detection and suppression systems can help reduce the risks associated with energy production. The company can design, supply and install systems to help detect and suppress fire at its onset.
Its fire detection, fire suppression, fire-fighting and personal protection solutions are highly advanced, protecting major facilities throughout Australia and New Zealand.
