On October 9, Star Jumper Richard Kelleway, President of Tyco Fire Protection Services, Asia Pacific, incorporating Australian brand Wormald , abseiled off the 43rd storey of Sydney’s Suncorp Place, ten stories higher than last year’s Sydney Star Jump location, to raise money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Last year the Star Jump raised $220,000 for Starlight, which provided Starlight Wishes to more than 150 seriously ill and hospitalised children.
A keen supporter of the Starlight Children’s Foundation, Richard Kelleway has taken part in a number of events to raise money for this worth cause. These include completing the 2007 and 2008 Chain Reaction cycle rides, personally raising more than $25,000 for Starlight.
As part of Richard Kelleway’s annual management meeting, held in Melbourne during September, members of his Asia Pacific management team visited the Starlight Express Room, at The Royal Children’s Hospital in Parkville and participated in a fundraising event for the Foundation.
Starlight aims to brighten the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children and their families through the delivery of innovative programmes, which provide positive distraction to restore the fun, laughter and joy that serious illness takes away.
Starlight relies on the generosity of individuals, community fundraisers and corporations to make a difference to the lives of sick children at a time when they need it most. However, in the next year there will be over 600,000 child admissions to hospitals across Australia.
Currently, Starlight reaches one in three of these children and their families. Starlight’s aim by 2010 is to give three out of three seriously ill children the opportunity to access and benefit from Starlight’s innovative programmes.
