WorkSafe is investigating the collapse of a steel building frame on a construction site in Laverton North.
The incident happened at a warehouse and office development in Syanamid St, Laverton North, around 8:15am.
Most of the frame, which measures 40m x 107m, has collapsed. No one was hurt.
WorkSafe investigators were at the scene.
According to WorkSafe, the incident was another warning to the building industry to ensure structures were properly engineered and constructed and to take into account the potential for high winds.
This is the third major collapse on a building site this year. A man died when at Pakenham in March when a concrete slab fell killing a man.
While investigations into this incident are at an early stage, builders and developers must ensure uncompleted structures are adequately braced until completed.
This is a fundamental safety issue that could have serious consequences.
It is only good luck that no one was in that area when the structure fell this morning. The consequences could have been catastrophic with multiple fatalities.
