WorkSafe Victoria organise Work Safe Week to highlight workplace safety

Supplier News

WorkSafe Victoria  have organised the Work Safe Week to stress the importance of safety during maintenance or repair work of vehicles. To support their stand, WorkSafe Victoria have listed down some incidents that showcase the importance of safety for drivers and mechanics who do maintenance work under vehicles.

WorkSafe Victoria are investigating an incident in which a man was run over by a truck while he was working under it in Union Road Somerton.

The 46-year-old, Bacchus Marsh was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where he is in a stable condition.

The enquiries are at an early stage, but it is understood that Marsh may have been doing the maintenance work under the vehicle when it rolled over him.

A man died at Altona North as he worked under a bus on 28 August.

WorkSafe Victoria’s Executive Director, John Merritt said that the incidents were a warning to drivers and mechanics to ensure that wheels were properly chocked and brakes were applied before working under vehicles.
