WORKSAFE Victoria has launched new safety regulations which tighten existing rules on working at heights above 2m. The regulations, which come into effect on 31 March 2004, have implications for all employers.
Where the need to work at height cannot be eliminated, the regulations establish a “hierarchy of controls”. These range from passive fall prevention devices such as fixed or mobile scaffolds, guard rails or perimeter screening to measures to break a fall such as industrial safety nets and safety harnesses, the use of ladders and administrative controls.
