WORKSAFE Victoria will hold an Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) workshop in Melbourne on 22 March featuring experienced safety managers and WorkSafe inspectors.

WorkSafe acting director projects and programs Clarke Martin said all food and beverage manufacturing companies should attend, whether they already have an OHS committee or are thinking of setting one up.

“A well-structured OHS committee can create a proactive workplace culture where health and safety issues are identified and managed in a way that leads to less workplace injuries,” he said.

Goodman Fielder safety health and environment manager Michael Carr and Foster’s Group safety manager Brett Nicholson will join WorkSafe inspectors speaking at the workshop.

The Occupational Health and Safety Act became a legal requirement on 1 January 2006 requiring food and beverage manufacturers to take a more strategic approach to workplace safety.
