WORKSAFE Victoria is investigating reports of people posing as WorkSafe inspectors and touting services for other businesses.
WorkSafe’s executive director, John Merritt, explained that inspectors do not use their position to sell services or refer business operators to third parties, the health and safety regulator has warned.
Merritt said several complaints had been received after people claiming to be WorkSafe inspectors touted for business for electrical testing and tagging companies.
“The businesses that have contacted us were shown identity cards and the ‘inspectors’ gave the impression that they were authorised officers of WorkSafe or the Victorian WorkCover Authority.
“Identity cards carried by WorkSafe Victoria inspectors carry the WorkSafe logo as well as their name, colour photograph and signature on the front, and a commencement and expiry date on the back,” Merritt said.
