Wiley & Co announces Contract Electrical Qld Pty Ltd (CEQ) as winner of ECA Excellence Award

Supplier News

Wiley & Co  is proud to announce that Contract Electrical Qld Pty Ltd (CEQ) has been awarded the prestigious ECA Excellence Award - Industrial Project of the Year.

Hosted annually by The Electrical and Communications Association, the ECA Excellence Awards recognise exceptional achievements in the electro-technology industry in Queensland. The vast array of talent across all fields of service, innovation, quality, products, safety and professionalism were showcased at the awards. The winners demonstrated exceptional achievements in their chosen categories, creating a standard for all to follow.

Demand created from the Australian Government’s Energy Efficient Homes rebate was the driver for Bradford’s new Brendale plant in Queensland and is predicted to offer ceiling insulation to 2.9 million homes in Australia by 2012.

CSR Bradford contracted Wiley to design and construct the 10,000m2 glasswool production facility, increasing production capacity by 35% in Australia. This makes Bradford one of the largest insulation producers in the Asia Pacific region.

The facility is a state-of-the-art manufacturing operation using the best available technology to ensure the sustainability of its operations by minimising emission, recycling water and reducing waste.

CEQ became involved in a rapidly changing, technically demanding project with their contract valued at $3.5M over only seven months.

CEQ was charged with assembling, modifying to Australian standards and commissioning a very complex package once the machinery arrived from China. The high pressure CEQ was placed under and the extreme levels of change control required on the project were particularly noted by the Judges.

Electrical scope included:

  • High Voltage installation
  • Main switchboard and distribution boards
  • Cable route design and installation
  • Light and power
  • Sub-main reticulation
  • Communications and data
  • Process automation
  • Field and instrumentation wiring
  • MCC coordination and installation
  • Final commissioning
Nearly half the scope was fast tracked with 28 tradesmen working 10 hour shifts, six days a week. The project was successfully commissioned allowing the facility to be operational within weeks as opposed to months.

Wiley were proud to work together with CEQ on this world class facility, allowing Bradford to meet the demands of the construction industry well into the future. This award is recognition of CEQ’s commitment to excellence and their willingness to be judged by others.
