A bin handling system from WheelieSafe Pty Ltd has been specifically designed to prevent hand injuries among older people.
According to Dr Richard Lawson, a specialist orthopaedic surgeon at the Royal North Shore Hospital, runaway wheelie bins have been found to cause severe hand injuries in older people. After investigating a significant number of injuries, it was found that older people were tilting wheelie bins too far back and losing control of them downhill, resulting in the handle of the bin hitting the ground with the user still holding onto it, often causing severe injury to their hands.
WheelieSafe Pty Ltd principal Brian Stafford points out that one model in the WheelieSafe bin handling systems range is designed specifically to prevent this kind of injury.
WheelieSafe dolly trolleys feature a tricycle undercarriage that takes the weight of the bin when it is tilted backwards and prevents it falling to the ground. A failsafe braking system has been provided in the trolley as an added safety measure to prevent the bin trolley combination from getting away from the user.
