Westek introduces a range of ancillaries to facilitate electrostatic discharge (ESD) testing. Waiting between tests so that built-up charge can dissipate is a nuisance and adds to the cost of testing.

The new Schaffner INA 4430 ESD charge remover speeds up testing, safely. Discharge cycle times can be programmed via the NSG 438 ESD gun utilising the instrument’s extensive suites of firmware.

Test beyond the standards. ESD immunity standards require testing with current discharge times of the order of 700 picoseconds but in many instances much shorter times should be used to provide enhanced assurance of immunity.

Testing beyond the standards pays off in terms of enhanced reliability. The Schaffner INA 4411 tip provides discharge times to 400 picoseconds thus allowing the investigation of high frequency phenomena. It is well documented that high di/dt is frequently the failure mechanism rather than peak pulse voltage.

ESD testing in inaccessible spots

The new Schaffner INA 4413 remote discharge tip with interchangeable resistors permits testing in hard-to-reach spots through the use of the flexible cable and small test tip. Interchangeable resistors permit the discharge energy to be controlled. The INA 4415 flexible test tip set is also to be used in inaccessible spots while preserving the discharge pulse shape integrity.

Pinpoint precision testing suitable for connector contact testing

The Schaffner INA 4416 spring-loaded contact tip is specifically designed for contact testing by allowing delicate contacts to be selected without mechanical stress during the testing phase.
